Kennedy Spark-resistant tools are used to eliminate the chances of accidental fires or explosions in potentially combustible or explosive
environments. They resist the sparks that a standard tool could potentially create when striking hard surfaces. The use of spark
resistant tools is essential in many industrial applications such as petroleum and chemical manufacturing, spray booth operations,
the marine industry, the mining industry, the paper industries, or any location where flammable vapours or combustible residues are
present.Spark-resistant tools must be maintained with special care. Frequent cleaning/re-dressing to remove ferrous particles
or contaminants, which may impair the spark-resistant properties, is essential.

Al-Br “Aluminium Bronze” ; Are manufactured to 20-30HRC and offer a breaking strain of 782 N/m – 989 N/m.

Be-Cu “Beryllium Copper” Are manufactured to 30-40HRC and offer a breaking strain of 1117 N/m – 1236 N/m.

“Zone 0” (Be-Cu) ; An atmosphere where a mixture of air and flammable substances in the form of gas, vapour or mist is present frequently, continuously or for long periods.

“Zone 1″(Be-Cu & Al-Br) ; An atmosphere where a mixture of air and flammable substances in the form of gas, vapour or mist is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.

“Zone 2” (Be-Cu & Al-Br) ; An atmosphere where a mixture of air and flammable substances in the form of gas, vapour or mist is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for only a short period.

For dusts the zone classifications are:

“Zone 20” (Be-Cu) ; An atmosphere where a cloud of combustible dust in the air is present frequently, continuously or for long periods.

“Zone 21” (Be-Cu & Al-Br) ;  An atmosphere where a cloud of combustible dust in the air is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.

“Zone 22” (Be-Cu & Al-Br) ; An atmosphere where a cloud of combustible dust in the air is not likely to occur in
normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for only a short period.
